Guide

Start small. Learn as you go.

You can create your first budget from scratch. No previous spreadsheet or import file is required.

01 / 06

Create your account

  1. Open the app and sign in with Google. Each account keeps its data separately.
  2. Choose a starting month, income, available balance and any existing savings or investments. Skip fields you do not need.
  3. After setup, rename accounts and categories to match your life.

Tip: begin with a few categories and daily transactions. Add details later.

Record income and spending

  1. In Daily budget, add income and transactions with a date, amount and category.
  2. Check the budget remaining on a specific date and review spending by day. Totals update after saving.
  3. Set category limits to see when spending exceeds your plan.
03 / 06

Plan upcoming payments

  1. Add rent, bills and subscriptions in Planning with their expected payment dates.
  2. A plan helps estimate the future balance; it becomes an actual expense only when marked paid.
04 / 06

Track savings and goals

  1. Add savings, record withdrawals when needed and set goals with target amounts.
  2. Remove investment categories if you do not invest. If you do, track your portfolio separately.
05 / 06

Make it yours

  1. Rename or archive unused categories and accounts. Rearrange dashboard metrics and hide ones you do not need.
  2. Write personal rules in My financial strategy. It is a reminder and does not create transactions automatically.

Keep a copy

  1. Download an XLSX from Copies and restore. Open it in Excel for review or analysis.
  2. To return to a saved version, upload a GEM Budget copy to the same account. You will see its date and confirm before replacing current data. Edits to Excel cells are not imported.
